Football Season and the big game

All three of us kids were in marching band in high school, so at least for me, that was when I started actually liking football! It was a great opportunity to yell and scream and get excited. I remember when Mom found me a book at the elementary library explaining how the game of football was played. Before that book, I only knew that a first down was pretty decent because we played the 1st down fight song and a touchdown was even better because we played the entire fight song! Then I went to college.

I really learned to appreciate football when I was in college. Luckily we had a great football program at Wartburg so games were pretty exciting and filled with touchdowns and even some playoff appearances. And since I had quite a few male friends in college and they would spend their weekends watching football on tv, I learned to appreciate that too. It still cant beat a live game though. I even hosted a superbowl party senior year and coined the phrase "I LOVE FOOTBALL!" although the party was more about the food then the game!

So anyways, tommorrow is the big Iowa vs Iowa State game. I didnt grow up being a fan of either team, nor did I even enjoy football until high school.  Dad didnt spend the weekends sitting in front of the TV watching football in the fall so we never did either. I think more then anyone, Mom was the one who care most about the Iowa vs Iowa State game...and that was still very little.

So every year when this weekend comes around, I am torn between who to cheer for. I could cheer for Iowa. My extended family lives right in the heart of Hawkeye country so they are fans and I suppose I could be to just because of the association. Plus, did attend one of the greatest college football games ever at the Capital One Bowl when Iowa went on to beat LSU in the final seconds of the game! I think there are no more loyal fans then Iowa fans though. They travel with the team everywhere and live and die by the Hawks...even though they have not done well in recent years.

Then again, I could cheer for Iowa State. They are the underdogs, they have a new coach and I like the academic programs at that school better. Plus I have friends that go to Iowa State and they tend to like it quite a bit. And, my first ever college football game was at Iowa State when they played Ball State back in 1998 (we went and marched at halftime when I was in high school for ISU Band Day). The fans at Iowa State however are pretty loyal in a different way. ISU is hardly ever good and those ISU fans usually stick by them so I feel bad!

I guess since I am so torn I will just hope that each team does their best and that the Knights and Peacocks both win their home games this weekend because after all thats what matters! Thank goodness Upper Iowa switched divisions and that those 2 teams dont play each other anymore...then we would really have a problem with who to cheer for!

What I will be following this fall....

As a college admissions counselor I will be spending much of my time this fall on the road and in hotels. I am acutally looking forward to it! But those nights in the hotel you can bet I will be following my favorite reality shows!

I really like reality television. Really a lot! Not the stupid shows like "I love New York" or "Toolbox" or really anything on VH1 or MTV but the awesome competition shows!

1. The top show is obviously Dancing with the Stars. I still am not quite sure if I am thrilled with the cast but I am pretty confident I will be cheering for (not voting for) Mark Dacascos and Lacey Schwimmer (yes, she is Davids cousin!!) because he is from Iron Chef America. I will also be cheering for Derek Hough and Joanna Krupa. I dont know who Joanna is but Derek is super cute and a spectacular dancer despite being one of the cockiest people ever! I have found that I am now more of a fan of the pros then the celebrities!

2. The Biggest Loser
I dont know why but I really enjoy this show! Perhaps its because I wish I had a trainer like Jillian Michaels. But hopefully it will keep me motivated to work out a bit while I am on the road!

3. Project Runway
Its sometimes hilarious to watch what the designers create and I love Heidi Klum! She is awesome! Oh and this season the show moved from Bravo to Lifetime and from New York to LA. It will be interesting to see what kind of changes these moves make.

4. So You Think You Can Dance
It will be my first season following this show but I saw a few episodes last season and was amazed! These people can really dance....they can do things that humans shouldnt be able to! Plus this show is a feeder right into Dancing with the Stars!

5. 18 Kids and Counting and The Little Couple
Now that TLC has turned the Jon and Kate Plus 8 cast into nothing but a tabloid story day after day...I have turned to these other great shows! The Duggars are really interesting to watch how they manage to get along with 18 (soon to be 19) kids! And the Little Couple are great because Jen and Bill are so normal but so short. Its fun to have insight into how they do everyday things in life. Its hard being short!

6. HGTV Design Star
Another talent I wish I had...being creative with design. I am hoping to pick up some pointers on this show. Plus some of the things they come up with are outrageous!

I do watch a lot of TV...I knwo that! I have always loved TV! But it helps that I have my DVR so I can skip commercials and never miss and important episode! And I dont only do reality TV...I also LOVE The Office, The Ellen Show, Oprah, the Today Show and The NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.

So I guess if you ever need a tip about what to watch...let me know and I will provide some suggestions!

My new blog!

Hey you...

Welcome to my new blog!! I have really been trying to get into this new fad over the past few months. I thoroughly enjoy reading other people's blogs and I figured I might as well start one to so that you all can know all about my thoughts!

Since I mentioned that I really like to read other blogs, let me tell you which ones I really enjoy and why.

AshleyDawn: Even though I talk to Ashley on most days, its really fun to read about what she does. I really dont know why but I get really excited she posts a new blog!

My Walt Disney World Career: If you didn't know, I spent 7 months of my junior year in college down in Orlando, Florida in the College Program at Walt Disney World. It was totally awesome. So when I learned that Brenna (who I knew from Wartburg) was going to do the same program, I was so excited. I read it all throughout her program and was able to re-live so many awesome things that I got to do on my program. Now she is actually a real cast member and not a CP so it is fun to live vicariously though her!

Free Sample Freak: I love free stuff and this person really has the in on getting all kinds of cool free stuff!

The Des Moines Register Staff Blogs: There are a few that I really enjoy. Specifically the West Des Moines, Urbandale, and Datebook blogs. I find out about so many cool things happening in the city from these people with the inside info!

Tonic Sol Fa: I was introduced to this group when I won free tickets to their holiday concert 2 years ago! I fell in love with this acapella group! They are amazing vocalists and hilarious guys and so is their blog! I cant wait for their upcoming concert! 2nd row!!

Those are some of the blogs I most look forward to reading each morning but I also love getting behind the scenes info from Pure Dancing with the Stars, finding out what is up Shawn Johnson on her blog, hearing the thoughts of my favorite on air personalities from Star 102.5, WHO TV, and NBC News and staying up to date on all things Disney.

I follow about 30 blogs daily and to make it much easier I use Google Reader. It tells you exactly when new blogs are up and makes it as easy as reading your e-mail!

If you dont follow any blogs (except mine since you are obviously reading it!) you should! I love being informed and blogs are just a new way to do that!

Hope you enjoy reading all about my thoughts!
